ABOUT RURU MEDIA:
Re-contextualising and transforming Māori ideals and principles into powerful narratives through the redefinition of avant-garde art and pop-art culture.
Ruru Media is about creating new images for ourselves as tangata whenua.
Sandy Wakefield [Ngāpuhi, Ngāi Tahu] was raised in Northland and spent her teenage summers stacking firewood and making horror movies down by the creek with her cousins.
A burgeoning sound engineering career in film and television follows and informs her pathway into the world of multimedia contemporary art practice. She is fiercely influenced by her upbringing, her whakapapa and crossing that bridge from colonized New Zealand to a futuristic de-colonized Aotearoa culture.
